I Is Bored

I have been so bored today it is ridiculous. I staved off the boredom for a while watching stupid youtube videos. Lasagna Cat is good as it really shows how shit Garfield was.

Also Clark and Michael held my attention during the hours i could have been doing something worthwhile. Michael Cera the star of Arrested Developement and his buddy Clark Duke's internet show is pretty funny and has a few cameos.

I am really enjoying Santogold at the moment, especially the Creator track. Baltimore's Dj Scottie B did a cool bmore version of the tune that i am gonna be spinning out n the coming months. I hope this gets an official release soon.

The DFA remix of Paper Planes was leaked online this week as well. I wasn't really blown away by the original version, i thought it was alright but not worthy of the reception it seemed to get from the critics. This one is more my sort of speed with a spacey, cosmic vibe that i could imagine sounding good next to some Italians Do It Better release.

Also hip hop heavyweight Dj Premier has remixed Grammy winning Dj and producer Mark Ronson. The remix of the Radiohead cover is quite a nice spin on the original, putting a hip hop slant on the funk version by scratching in the horn sections and keeping the whole thing mixable.

Well i am off to watch some more mind numbing television until i feel like commiting suicide.

Once you enter my house it then becomes our house

This blog is actually here to advertise my night in Snafu, so i figure i should post some of the songs that get played on the Monday night mashup that is Electrique Boutique.

Recently it has started to get pretty busy again and i have been able to play slightly more aggressive, faster music. I have a theory that songs with big breakdowns or periods with no beats don't really work too well outside of massive clubs. However this Nacho Lovers edit of Laidback Luke and Steve Angello's possible summer anthem 'Be' blows that theory right out of the water. It actually got a cheer when it dropped into the break on Monday.

Laidback Luke and Steve Angello - Be (Nacho Lovers Edit)

Here is a cheeky bootleg that blends it with the Robin S fairground classic 'Show Me Love'

Dubstep and 4x4 isn't really well represented up here in Aberdeen, which i feel is a shame as there is a market for it in my opinion. My biggest tune at new year was Benga and Coki's 'Night' and after i started spinning a few 4x4 tunes i had people coming up to me asking why there weren't more people playing this music. Admittedly 4x4 doesn't have the best reputation and hearing T2's 'Heartbroken' blasting out of the windows of lowered Vauxhall Corsa's doesnt do much to help belay this chavvy rep that it has. Here is the afforementioned dubstep tune and a slightly slowed down more dancefloor friendly version of the Burial classic 'Archangel' by Trouble and Bass's Boy 8 Bit.

Herve and Sinden Essential Mix

Here is the Essential Mix from Radio One by none other than Herve and Sinden from the 5th of January. Pretty much business as usual as far as the tunes go, although thankfully business as usual for this pair is a big, party mash up of music from genres far and wide.

There is no tracklist as of yet, but this mix contains some Kid Sister, Toddla T, South Rakkas Crew, Soulja Boy, Dude and Nem, MJ Cole, Snoop Dogg, Pitbull, Burial, Benga and Coki, Rusko, Santogold, Bonde Do Role and loads more good music.

Cheers to the Holler board for the links on this one.

Crookers live @ club 11 (amsterdam 09-11-2007)

So we have Crookers playing at Snafu on Friday February the 15th and i am a bit chuffed about it. I love their weird take on modern dance music and i reckon that 2008 will be a big year for them. I could try to describe their sound but i think i will just post some of the tracks that have been leaked online with some of their live mixes. We'll start with a few mixtapes.

I Ain't Scared Of You Bro, Though I Am Of The Omen.

Yeah so i haven't posted anything for a while, to be honest i haven't really a lot to say. The other day i went to the opening of the new G-Star shop on Union Street. This taught me that i have a lot to learn about manners and etiquette.

On the way back to my flat to get changed for the party i was rushing and all of a sudden got a really dry mouth. I decided the best course of action was to spit into the gutter, as i pulled the screwface that you do when you are hocking phlegm into your mouth i noticed that a girl walking towards me was smiling as if she knew me. For some reason as my eyes met hers and she did the nodding-smiling thing i spat out all the stuff in my mouth. Whilst looking her dead in the eye and with my screw face still on. To make it worse when i realised what i had done she was walking past me and i muttered "nice one giles" to myself. She would have definitely heard it as well.

So i get home and try to forget that i am a sociopath and get ready for the party, forgetting to eat anything as i am in a rush now. Once at the party i have a cool time, G-Star have a dj up from Manchester playing in Dusk and it is a free bar with proper drinks. I proceed to get fucked up on Stella, cider, shots of posh vodka, long island iced teas and mohitos. This was my mistake i think, because by 11pm i am in the back of a plumbers van with some girls on my way to Snafu not really sure what is going on anymore.

Once at Snafu i make my way over to the dancefloor to watch the Kitchen Cynics, who was ace, and then quickly decide i am far too drunk to stay and make a move for the door. Once outside i ran into my girlfriend and i was swaying all over the place, as i slowed to speak to her i felt really nauseous and my mouth started filling with pre vomit saliva. I went to spit it out but what i hadn't noticed was that an older couple had been walking behind me and were in the process of overtaking as i pulled this maneuver.

I spat right into the womens face.

To make things worse i then started being sick everywhere, stumbling about the pavement as she froze in horror at what had just happened.

Anyway i have decided to stop spitting in the street from now on as it is a filthy habit that i only really do because i am from the country, used to ride bikes alot and because i am a mink.

Anyway this blog is supposed to be for the night that i do at Snafu so here's a nice Baile Funk meets Bmore remix of We Are Your Friends.

Simian - Never Be Alone (DJ Sandrinho Remix)

and that Mark Ronson remix of Bob Dylan's tune

Never Trust A Bearded Man

How many good guys have beards in films?

Right, now compare that to how many bad guys have beards in films.

Anyway regardless of that it's pretty hard to get by in day to day life without running into people with beards. But you should never forget that they are trying to hide ther faces from you and are probably thinking dark, twisted thoughts. The Pelican club had the right idea with a no beards policy, but since it has become an ironic, post metro show of masculinity we are swamped with them again.

San Francisco's Dj Vin Sol has a beard and whilst i'm unsure of his morals his tunes and remixes are pretty dope. He was kind enough take time out from djing with Diplo, A-trak, Scottie B and Kid Sister to send me some of his mashups and tunes the other day for this blog.

First off is a nice disco flavoured remix of a booty tune about reversing bottoms.

Dj Unk - Back It Up (Vin Sol Disco Remix)

Second is a Bmore'd up remix of Ciara's recent R&B fave.

Ciara - Get Up (Vin Sol Remix)

The last one i'm gonna post is a more club friendly version of every menstruating mans favourite alchoholic from the south.

Cat Power - Free (Vin Sol Re Edit)

Be careful kids, sometimes these beardies have diplomatic imunity.
