I Is Bored

I have been so bored today it is ridiculous. I staved off the boredom for a while watching stupid youtube videos. Lasagna Cat is good as it really shows how shit Garfield was.

Also Clark and Michael held my attention during the hours i could have been doing something worthwhile. Michael Cera the star of Arrested Developement and his buddy Clark Duke's internet show is pretty funny and has a few cameos.

I am really enjoying Santogold at the moment, especially the Creator track. Baltimore's Dj Scottie B did a cool bmore version of the tune that i am gonna be spinning out n the coming months. I hope this gets an official release soon.

Santogold - Creator (Scottie B Remix)

The DFA remix of Paper Planes was leaked online this week as well. I wasn't really blown away by the original version, i thought it was alright but not worthy of the reception it seemed to get from the critics. This one is more my sort of speed with a spacey, cosmic vibe that i could imagine sounding good next to some Italians Do It Better release.

MIA - Paper Planes (DFA Remix)

Also hip hop heavyweight Dj Premier has remixed Grammy winning Dj and producer Mark Ronson. The remix of the Radiohead cover is quite a nice spin on the original, putting a hip hop slant on the funk version by scratching in the horn sections and keeping the whole thing mixable.

Well i am off to watch some more mind numbing television until i feel like commiting suicide.

Mooqee Strikes A Beat

Mooqee is a producer and dj residing in London, he makes fun cut and paste type tunes that go down nicely in the club without being too obvious or cheesy. His remix of K W Griff's bmore version of Aretha Franklin's 'Respect' was featured on both Mark Ronson and Diplo's Essential Mixes. He plays at various clubs around London and is a resident at the Sugarbeat club playng a mixture of hip hop, breaks and funk. He also co-runs the Bomb Strikes record label and, seriously, his version of 'Respect' is a surefire way to get everyone on the dancefloor quickly. He caught up with us to answer a few of our stupid questions and drop a nice mix for us.

EB: Who inspired you to start djing and producing?

Mooqee: long time ago in a galaxy far far away...or more precisely in my hometown of Leeds Back in the Early 90's. I was blown away by the first breakthrough of house and Dj culture. It wasnt any one dj who inspired me, more a natural progression from spending money on records to then wanting decks to have a go at mixing them. There were some great Djs making their name though. I always went nuts listening to people like Tim Utah, Laurent Garnier, Grooverider and Rob Tissera. The production side was again natural evolution. I was tinkering about making edits to play out and then got into it full time, thats When Mooqee was born....so to speak. On the inspiration front at the moment I would have to Say that I think A-skillz is red hot and so are the Beatvandals.

EB: Is there a record that never leaves your bag?

Mooqee: At the moment its KW Griff - Respect (Mooqee & Russ cuban edit)....eh em...honest not just a shameles plug. It absolutely blows up everytime. Like carrying a get of jail free card for those awkward dj moments when you just got to rinse things out.

EB: You're out in a club, room one has Leftfield supporting Orbital, room two has Fela Kuti Supporting James Brown and room three has Ron Hardy supporting Larry Levan. Which room are you gonna go into?

Mooqee: Going back to my roots I would have to say Leftfield...although in truth Id probably be switching between rooms all night trying not to miss any of them. I'd be gutted to miss the whole "I cant go on" routine by JB, he was the man for sure.

EB: If you started to develop a large hooked nose (like some sort of witch) would you pay for cosmetic surgery to reduce it or just accept that you looked like this from now on?

Mooqee: That would be the birth of Dj Hooknose the happy hardcore dj...may as well sell what you got. That is assuming happy hardcore is still going...

Mooqee Top 10:

1: Kw Griff - Respect - Bombstrikes Records
2: Old Skool (Beatvandals mash up) - Dizzie Rascal - XL
3: System Addict - Plump Djs - Fingerlickin
4: Stronger (Diplo mix) - Kanye West - CDR
5: Polar Crunk - Mooqee - Bombstrikes Records
6: Jungle Banger - Nick Thayer - CDR
7: Badman once again - Mat the Alien - CDR
8: Strawberry Jam - Askillz - Insane Banger
9: Kiss Kiss Bang Bang - High Contrast - Hospital Records
10: Nifty - Nifty - Atlantic Jaxx

Nice exclusive Mooqee Dj mix
